8th Grade End-of-the-Year Activities

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As time draws near for the end of your child’s middle school years, we look forward to celebrating with them in many end-of-the-year activities. We have included information regarding this year’s events and celebrations in hopes that it will assist you in your planning and preparation.

Student participation in the Promotion Dance and the Sunsplash outing is dependent upon a student’s continued demonstration of acceptable behavior on campus. Any students assigned to ISI on the day of these events or students who are already on social probation will not be allowed to attend. You will be contacted by your child’s teachers or administration if your student is in jeopardy of non-participation in 8th grade activities.

New this year for our Kyrene 8th Graders, the Promotion ceremonies will be held the evening of Wednesday, May 22. The official last day of school is Thursday, May 23. However, 8th graders will not be required to attend on Thursday. You do not need to call to report your 8th grade student’s absence on May 23. 8th graders are still welcome to attend Thursday, and if they do, we will ensure it is an active day of school.

We look forward to this exciting time for our 8th grade students and thank you for your continued support. Congratulations 8th grade!!

Sincerely,

Ashley Schutkowski, Principal

Steve Benoche, Assistant Principal

Promotion Ceremony
Wednesday, May 22, 2023
Pueblo Gymnasium

The ceremonies will be age-appropriate for middle level students with an emphasis on the theme of a “Celebration of Learning”. The students will be involved in the ceremony including a musical performance and student speeches. Students’ names will be read aloud and each student will walk to the front to receive a congratulatory handshake and certificate.

We request that you do not bring bells, whistles, or other noise makers to use when hearing your child’s name. There is no pause between names and other parents are not able to hear their child’s name when these noises are made. This is a special occasion, so please dress accordingly. However, formal attire is not appropriate.

Promotion Ceremony Times

On May 22 at 5:00pm, Students with last names starting with A - L will meet at 4:30 PM in the Pueblo MPR.  Parent Seating will start at 4:40 and the ceremony will start at 5:00 PM.

On May 22 at 6:15pm, Students with last names starting with M - Z will meet at 5:45 PM in the Pueblo MPR.  Parent Seating will start at 5:55 and the ceremony will start at 6:15 PM.

We ask for students and parents to arrive on time so that students may organize in the MPR for the procession.  Seating for each will begin and end promptly at the times listed above so that we can begin and end each ceremony on time.

Family members and visitors may sit in the bleachers located on both sides of the gymnasium or on the benches directly behind the student seating.  At the completion of the first ceremony, we are asking that families quickly and safely exit the campus so that the next ceremony can start on time.

Thank you in advance for all of your help and cooperation in making this a memorable event for your child.  If you have any questions, please call us at 480-541-6800.
